Nothing shouts summer more than a creamy Greek yoghurt and feta dip.
The weather is so hot in Sweden right now. Unbelievably hot. So hot that I am looking for any excuse to open the freezer just so I can stick my head in it. The heat makes me crave salads but does anyone else find them a little dull? I always need a nice tangy dressing drizzled over or a thick, creamy dip dolloped beside. Like this Greek yoghurt and feta dip stuffed with mild red onions and a sprinkling of green chillies for a little bite.
We rarely have this kind of heat in northern Europe and to unrelentingly span for more than a week is unheard of. I am trying very hard not to complain, though. I’ve spent five months enduring gloomy, depressing weather longing for light and warmth. I just didn’t expect Saharanesque proportions to descend on my cold corner of the globe.
I never buy sauces or dips because making your own is not only beyond simple but they are also so much better for you (and that’s without considering how much more expensive they are to buy).
I usually have a pot of Greek yoghurt in the fridge and always have onions so making a bowl of creamy dip, even at a moment’s notice, is not difficult. I love using Greek yoghurt in recipes like this because it tastes so luxurious and rich, but without the calories or fat of sour cream.
I kept the Greek theme going by adding some feta cheese. Like Greek yoghurt, feta makes a healthier alternative with less fat than regular cheese. Not only is is better for you but its distinct, tangy flavour is just divine.
However, as with most of my recipes, you can adapt this Greek yoghurt and feta dip to match your preferences. Swap out the Greek yoghurt for sour cream. Play around with the other ingredients, and increase (or decrease) the hit of chillies to suit your own taste.
- 250g Greek yoghurt (or sour cream)
- 100g feta cheese
- ½ red onion (finely chopped - save a little for decoration)
- Couple of slices green chilli (chopped very finely - save a little for decoration)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
In a large bowl add the yoghurt and crumble in the feta. Throw in the onion and chillies along with the other four ingredients. Stir to combine. Place in the fridge until ready. Sprinkle a few chopped onions and chillies over the top before serving.
